About College

Currently, Kannur University operates two distinct campuses for its School of Legal Studies. The first, School of Legal Studies 1, is located at Dr. Janaki Ammal Campus, while the newly established School of Legal Studies 2 is situated at Manjeswaram Campus. The Department of Law was originally founded in 1996 with the aim of advancing legal education in the Malabar region.

The School of Legal Studies stands as a beacon of academic excellence and public service, dedicated to the legal development of the nation. It continuously adapts to the evolving challenges of social change, striving to meet the growing legal and law-related needs of society.

Course Details

LLM

Criminal Law is concerned with the most potentially invasive contention of authority by the state: if you fail to comply with the law you will be punished. As crime knows no jurisdictional or geographical boundaries, we need to expand our horizons and not only think domestically but also think internationally. The LLM (Criminal Laws) offers a unique and distinct opportunity to study criminal law in National, international and transnational context. This programme provides a holistic analysis of the criminal process through an analysis of the law, its philosophical underpinnings and its operation in practice in constantly changing environment.

For those wishing to gain in-depth understanding of criminal law and criminal justice, this course offers the opportunity for broader or deeply specialized study within an innovative research. The innovative focus and unique areas of study, allow you to develop your ability to critically appraise the current approaches and contemporary issues relating to criminal law i.e. transnational criminal law, cyber crimes and organized crime, and the challenges these pose. This programme emphasizes more on critical writing instead of traditional classroom teaching.

BA LLB

Eligibility for Admission.
An applicant seeking admission to B.A.LL.B Degree course shall have successfully completed Pre-University Course or Senior Secondary School course (‗+2‘) or equivalent (such as 11+1, ‗A‘ level in Senior School Leaving Certificate

Course) from a recognized University in India or outside, or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government securing in the aggregate, marks not less than 45% (in the case of SC/ST 40%) of the total marks.

(Note: i) Candidates obtaining 10+2 directly through open university without having any basic qualification for pursuing such studies are not eligible for admission in the B.A., LL.B. degree courses. ii) A candidate having passed Job Oriented course and Diploma Course are not eligible to seek admission in B.A., LL.B.)

Explanation: However candidates obtaining 44.5% in case of General Merit & 39.5% in case of SC/ST shall be deemed to have secured 45% and 40% respectively.

6.2 Maximum age for seeking admission to the B.A., LL.B. Degree Course is 20 years of age (relaxation of two years in case of SC, ST, and Other Backward Communities) as on the date of admission notification.
