About College
In the 1991-92 Budget Speech, the Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Govt. of Kerala announced the establishment of a new Government Ayurveda College in Kannur District. Dr. M. Govindan, Superintendent of Govt. Ayurveda College Hospital, Tripunithura, was appointed as Special Officer for preliminary work and took charge on 10.05.1991. The College began operations in the old Govt. Town High School building near SN Park in Kannur.
Dr. M. Govindan was appointed as the first Principal on 15.01.1992, and the BAMS course commenced the same day with an initial intake of 30 students. In 1998, the College moved to a new 35-acre campus in Pariyaram, which also houses a 150-bedded hospital for clinical training.
Starting from the 2002-03 academic year, the BAMS seat intake increased from 30 to 40, and then from 40 to 60 from 2018-19 onwards. Additionally, two PG courses in Kriyasareera and Roganidana with 5 seats each began in 2002-03, later expanded to 9 and 8 seats respectively. New PG courses in Salyathantra, Salakyathantra (6 seats), and Rasasasthra & Bhaishajyakalpana (7 seats) started in 2020-21. The College now operates 14 departments and a 150-bedded hospital for the clinical training of BAMS, PG, diploma, and paramedical students.
