St. Ann's College Of Education, Mangaluru

Established in 1943, St. Ann's College of Education boasts a series of pioneering achievements: it was the first College of Education along the West Coast under Madras Presidency, the inaugural private College of Education for women in Karnataka State, and the first to seek Assessment and Accreditation in Karnataka. Notably, it was awarded the prestigious FIVE STAR status in 2001, re-accredited in 2009 with a remarkable CGPA of 3.63/4, and earned an ‘A’ Grade in 2014 with a CGPA of 3.71/4 by NAAC, marking the highest among all reaccredited Colleges of Education in India and those under Mangalore University. Further cementing its distinction, it is the only College of Education granted Autonomous Status by the UGC with the approval of the Government of Karnataka.

Dr. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor of Madras University and Chairman of the Mudaliar Education Commission, lauded the institution during his visit in 1943, stating, "If your secondary trained teachers are so good, how much better your graduate trained teachers will be!" Thus, St. Ann's stands as a Government Aided, Autonomous, and Christian Minority College, managed by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, pioneers of women’s education and empowerment in India since 1870.

Primarily engaged in undergraduate pre-service teacher training for secondary schools since its inception, the college introduced the M.Ed. Degree Course in 1992. Endowed with Autonomous Status by the UGC, State Government of Karnataka, and Mangalore University in 2007, it also hosts a ‘Ph. D. Research Centre’ sanctioned by Mangalore University in 2008, with nineteen scholars having obtained Ph. D. degrees and thirty currently pursuing research studies.
