Sri Mahaveera College, Mangaluru

Sri Mahaveera College, established in 1965 by the Academy of General Education, Manipal, and the Sri Mahaveera College Trust, aims to provide university education in a rural setting to deserving students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. While its primary focus is on rural students, the college is open to all, regardless of caste or creed. Its mission is to cultivate young leaders who will contribute to positive societal change, especially for marginalized communities like the Dalits.

The college initially operated from Samaja Mandira before acquiring 16.6 acres of land in Kodangallu, granted by the Government of Mysore. Over time, the campus expanded with an additional 3.6 acres purchased by the Trust. The construction of the first building commenced in 1965 and was inaugurated in 1966 by the then Chief Minister of Mysore, Sri S Nijalingappa. Subsequent developments saw the inauguration of the main block and the college playground in 1968.

Sri Mahaveera College has garnered praise for its revamped curriculum for pre-university and undergraduate programs, receiving acclaim from stakeholders such as alumni, parents, industries, and the wider community. The institution promotes transparency through student-led evaluations of teachers and provides students with access to their internally evaluated answer scripts. Regular parent-teacher meetings further ensure continuous monitoring of student progress and development.
