About College

Jesuit education is a dynamic tradition characterized by open eyes, ears, and hearts. This tradition is dedicated to fostering human excellence, global citizenship, environmental stewardship, justice, accessibility, intercultural understanding, and lifelong learning. Jesuit education seeks to develop individuals who are not only competent leaders but also individuals of conscience, compassion, and commitment. St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, famously stated, “The well-being of the whole world depends upon the education of the youth.” Thus, Jesuit education is pivotal in understanding and engaging with the world.

Loyola College of Social Sciences embodies this living tradition as a member of the Global Network of Jesuit Higher Education, sharing the core Ignatian values. Established in 1963 by the visionary Jesuit Father Joseph Edamaram, Loyola College is one of the oldest social science institutions in India, created to drive social change in Kerala and beyond. The college emphasizes excellence through service.

Loyola College offers graduate programs in MA (Sociology), MSW (Masters in Social Work), MAHRM (Masters in Human Resource Management), and MSc in Counselling Psychology. Affiliated with the University of Kerala, it also serves as a recognized Research Centre for Ph.D. programs in Sociology, Social Work, and Management Studies. The faculty engage in various research projects, and the Loyola Extension Services (LES) functions as the college's social lab, offering extensive community outreach.

In alignment with the Jesuit principle of MAGIS (Excellence) and a commitment to Faith and Justice, Loyola College strives to extend the benefits of higher education to marginalized communities. Guided by the Ignatian vision, the college is dedicated to applying this vision in its educational practices and community engagement.
