Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bangalore: A Legacy of Excellence in Medical Education
Established in 1980 by the Vokkaligara Sangha, the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is a prestigious medical institution affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka.
A Foundation Built on Vision:
The Vokkaligara Sangha's decisive commitment in 1979 led to the establishment of KIMS in the academic year 1980-81. The foundation stone for the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital was laid on November 30th, 1980, by the Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri R Gundu Rao, who also announced the allocation of land in Banashankari for the college building and hostels. Classes commenced on March 16th, 1981, a day now celebrated annually as KIMS Day. The institute marked its Silver Jubilee in 2006, and a magnificent college building at the Banashankari Campus commemorates the centenary of the Vokkaligara Sangha and the Silver Jubilee of KIMS.

The Pre-clinical and Para-clinical departments are strategically located in Banashankari 2nd Stage, near the BDA complex. The Clinical Departments and the KIMS Hospital are situated 4 kilometers away at the KIMS Hospital on Krishna Rajendra Road, Visveswarapuram, ensuring comprehensive clinical exposure.

KIMS has been permanently recognized by the Medical Council of India (now NMC - National Medical Commission) for its MBBS course since 1980-81 and has been running recognized postgraduate degree/diploma courses since 1991-92, with approval from the Government of India.
