Established in 1989 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to commemorate the birth centenary of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is an autonomous institution at the forefront of scientific discovery. Founded under the visionary leadership of Prof. C. N. R. Rao, FRS, with Dr. Raja Ramanna as its first Chairman, JNCASR was recognized as a Deemed-to-be University by the UGC in 2002.

Leadership and Governance:

Currently led by President Prof. Giridhar U. Kulkarni, with its Governing Council chaired by Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, JNCASR's operations are meticulously overseen. The Council of Management governs key activities, including degree conferment, faculty appointments, and program initiation. The Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) ensures the quality of teaching programs and degree awards. The institution is administered by the President, supported by the Administrative Officer and other dedicated officers, with four Deans guiding the Academic Section, Extension Programmes, Research and Development, and Faculty Affairs.
