About College

Named in honor of the esteemed Kannada literary figure Rashtrakavi Manjeshwar Govinda Pai (1883-1963), Government College, Manjeshwar was established with the vision to profoundly impact the social, cultural, and educational landscape of Northern Malabar in Kerala. Renowned for his prolific contributions to Kannada literature and poetry, Govinda Pai earned the title of Rashtrakavi from the Government of Madras, alongside Mahakavi Vallathol. His legacy as a scholar, poet, dramatist, polyglot, historian, and social reformer exemplified love, compassion, universal brotherhood, and religious harmony.

Echoing Govinda Pai's ideals, Government College, Manjeshwar was formally inaugurated on September 22, 1980, by Sri E.K. Nayanar, the Chief Minister of Kerala. The inaugural ceremony was graced by eminent dignitaries including Sri R. Gundu Rao, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri Baby John, Minister of Education, Kerala, Dr. A. Subha Rao, Minister of Irrigation, Kerala, and Sri Veerappa Moily, Minister of Finance, Karnataka. Situated in a historically significant area, the Govinda Pai Memorial Government College traces its roots from prehistoric times through the Indian national movements, profoundly influencing the history of South India and the nation as a whole.

Course Details

BA

Now the department is offering three year B.A Kannada degree course with common course, core course and Complimentary course. Women studies, Media studies, Cultural history of Karnataka and Research methodology are the complimentary course in I year and II year Ancient literature, Indian poetic, Criticism, Translation, linguistic science, Inscriptions and paleography are in III year. The eligibility condition for the admission to yhis course is a pass in +2 or equivalent examination with Kannada as one of the subject or language.
