About College

Established in 1875, the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram, stands as one of the oldest institutions for legal education in India. Affiliated with the Faculty of Law at the University of Kerala and governed by the Government of Kerala, the college was ranked 23rd among law colleges in India by INDIA TODAY in 2007.

The college offers several programs, including a 2-year LLM degree with specializations in Constitutional Law & Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology; a 3-year LLB degree; and a 5-year integrated LLB degree. Admission to these programs is through a common entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Government of Kerala.

With a distinguished and experienced faculty, the college consistently produces top scorers at the university level. It boasts a well-maintained library and reading room for student use and provides hostel facilities for female students, while male students are accommodated in a separate block at the University Men's Hostel in Palayam.

In alignment with Supreme Court directives, the college has established an Anti-Ragging Committee and an Anti-Ragging Squad, led by the Principal, to prevent ragging. Additionally, a Women Grievance Cell is in place to address the welfare and concerns of female students.

Course Details

BA LLB

INTERGRATED FIVE YEAR B. A., LL. B. DEGREE COURSE

The course shall be of a double degree integrated course comprising B.A. and L.L.B. Degrees.The Bachelor’s Degree in B.A. and Law shall consist of regular course of study for a minimum period of 10 Semesters in Five Years and shall consist of 14 papers in B. A. and 31 papers in Law.

Each semester shall consist of 90 instructional days having 5 hours per day for lectures, seminars, debates and test papers.There shall be not less than four hours per subject per week and one/two hours for seminar/test paper.

LLB

Degree of Bachelor of Law

The course of study for the Degree of Bachelor of Law (Three Years) shall extend to aperiod of three academic years consisting 6 semesters and shall consist of 27 compulsory papers, including practical training for 400 marks and three optional papers. Admission is restricted to 80 candidates and the selection is made through a common entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Govt. of Kerala every year.And from 2014-15, the College has started Three year Unitary LLB Additional batch (Self Financing).

LLM

Post Graduate Degree Course

The course of study for this Post Graduate Degree Course shall extend to a period of two academic years consisting of four semesters of five months duration with specialisation in (1) Constitutional Law and (2) International Law. Admission is restricted to 15 candidates and the selection is made through a common entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Govt. of Kerala every year.
