About College
The College of Engineering, Trivandrum, established in 1939, holds the distinction of being the first engineering college in the former Travancore State. The inaugural classes began on July 3, 1939, under the reign of King Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, who played a significant role in the college's founding. Initially, the College was located in the former office and bungalow of the Chief Engineer (now the PMG Office), with Major T.H. Mathewman, a British national, serving as its first Principal.
Initially a constituent college of Travancore University, it began with an intake of 21 students each for Degree and Diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. In the late 1950s, with the establishment of the Directorate of Technical Education, the college came under the administration of the Government of Kerala. In 1960, the College relocated to its current expansive 125-acre campus.
