The college currently offers a range of programs, including D. Pharm., B.Pharm., Pharm. D., M.Pharm. (with specializations in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Pharmacology), and Ph.D. The college plans to expand by introducing an M.Pharm. program in Pharmacy Practice and establishing a fully air-conditioned reference library specifically for Pharm. D., M.Pharm., and Ph.D. research students.

Course Details

B.Pharm

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) is an undergraduate academic degree in the field of pharmacy. The duration of this course is 4 years. The students those are interested in the medical field can choose this course after the completion of class 12th.

D.Pharm

Diploma in Pharmacy is an entry-level tertiary pharmacy credential. It is obtained following two-year of training Students can enroll in the course after successfully completing higher secondary education in science stream with physics, chemistry and either biology or mathematics as subjects. After obtaining the diploma, registration with the pharmacy council is required to be a registered pharmacist. A D. Pharm. holder can also enroll for a professional undergraduate degree course of Bachelor of Pharmacy via lateral entry scheme.

A diploma holder can be employed as a registered pharmacist in a hospital or pharmacy dispensing drugs and pharmaceuticals. It is mandatory that at least one person employed in a pharmacy be a qualified and registered pharmacist.

M.Pharm

These regulations shall be called as Master of Pharmacy Degree Program – Credit Based Semester System (M. Pharm.‐CBSS) of the “Kerala University of Health Sciences”. They shall come into effect from the Academic Year 2017‐18. The regulations framed are subject to modifications from time to time by the authorities of the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur.  The minimum qualification for admission, pass in B. Pharm. Degree examination of an Indian university established by law in India from an institution approved by Pharmacy Council of India and has scored not less than 55% of the maximum marks. Every student, selected for admission to post graduate pharmacy program in any PCI approved institution should have obtained registration with the State Pharmacy Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of his/her admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled. Duration of the program, the program of study for M. Pharm. shall extend over a period of four semesters (two academic years). The curricula and syllabi for the program shall be prescribed from time to time by Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur.

Pharm D

Pharm. D. is a 6- year doctorate level course, including five years of academic study and a year of internship or residency. The course aims to prepare eligible candidates students in the management of patient medication therapy and improving patient outcomes. In some countries, it is a first professional degree, and a prerequisite for licensing to practice the profession of pharmacy or to become a Clinical pharmacist. In many countries they are allowed to practice independently and can prescribe the brand of drugs directly to the patients. Pharm.D. program has significant experiential or clinical education components in introductory and advanced levels for the safe and effective use of drugs. Experiential education prepares graduates to be practice-ready as they already spent a significant amount of time training in areas of direct patient care and research. A Pharm. D. graduate can also use the prefix ‘Dr’ along with their name.

Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or any other Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Biology / Mathematics separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Mathematics put together are eligible. A pass in D. Pharm. course with a minimum of 50% marks in D. Pharm. examination from an institution approved by PCI under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act or any other qualification approved by the PCI as equivalent thereto any of the above examinations.
