About College

Established in 1969 by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, the College of Fisheries, Mangalore stands as a pioneer in fisheries education and research in India. Initially under the umbrella of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, it now operates within the newly formed Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University in Bidar.

At its core, the College is dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the biological, technical, and economic significance of fisheries and related fields. Its mission encompasses the planning, execution, facilitation, and coordination of education, research, and extension activities in Fisheries Science, maintaining its pivotal role in shaping the fisheries landscape nationwide.

Offering Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F. Sc.), Master of Fisheries Science (M.F. Sc.), and Ph.D. programs, the College specializes in five branches: Aquaculture, Fisheries Microbiology, Fish Processing Technology, Fisheries Resources and Management, and Fisheries Environment and Ecology. Its main campus in Yekkur, Kankanady, Mangalore, houses administrative facilities, departments, hostels, an auditorium, and recreational amenities, while the Technology Wing at Hoige Bazar caters to specialized areas like Fish Processing Technology and Fisheries Engineering Technology, strategically positioned near the Nethravathy River and Arabian Sea.

As a leading institution, the College boasts comprehensive infrastructure and a faculty of 35 members proficient in various aspects of fisheries sciences and allied disciplines. Equipped with advanced scientific laboratories, including the Microbial Resource Centre recognized by UNESCO, the College conducts research across a spectrum of domains such as disease diagnostics, nutrition, post-harvest techniques, and environmental monitoring.

Driven by a commitment to excellence, the College actively pursues research and consultancy projects, securing substantial funding from external agencies. With 20 ongoing projects totaling Rs. 394.12 Lakhs in the 2016-17 period alone, it continues to push boundaries in advancing fisheries science and contributing to its sustainable development.
