A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences - [ABSMIDS], Mangaluru

Established in 1985, the A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences holds accreditation from both the Dental Council of India and the Malaysian Dental Council. Additionally, it is affiliated with the Okayama University Dental School in Japan and serves as an academic mentor to the Oman Dental College in the Sultanate of Oman. The institute boasts a pioneering role in cleft lip, palate, and craniofacial anomaly treatment and research in the nation, in collaboration with the Smile Train Organization, USA, and Cleft Children International, Switzerland.

Moreover, the institute fosters international academic exchange through Memoranda of Understanding with Radboud University in The Netherlands and the Université de Paul Sabatier in France. Embodying the motto of 'Service to Humanity' and 'Dental Healthcare Delivery at the Doorstep,' it has established a network of 21 Rural Dental Health Centres since 1991, spanning a radius of 150 km.

Recognized for its excellence, the institute ranks 6th among dental colleges in India according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022 by MHRD, GoI, and 3rd among private dental colleges in India according to The Week magazine’s 'Hansa Research Survey 2021.' It has garnered prestigious awards such as 'The Best Community Dental Service Activities Award' from the International College of Dentists, USA, and 'The Best Outreach Program Award' from the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry at the National Level.

Furthermore, the institution holds the esteemed 'Sushruta Award' for the Best Community Outreach Program at the National level, conferred by the IDA Head Office. Notably, it has secured a place in the Limca Book of Records 2020-22 for 'The Maximum Number of Complete Dentures Fabricated and Delivered in a Single Day,' a feat achieved through its innovative 'Single Day Denture Camps' introduced in 1991.

Recently, the institute has implemented an 'Interns Exit Assessment' to evaluate the attitude, knowledge, and skill levels of its interns, further enhancing its commitment to academic and professional excellence.
